Genius Loci Amsterdam is an agency that provides advice in the spatial domain, i.e. area development, urban planning and architecture.
Genius Loci means “the spirit of a place”.
The term became known through a book by Christian Norberg-Schulz: Genius Loci, Towards a Phenomenology of Architecture. It is a remarkable book, sometimes even offering a metaphysical interpretation.
We use the direct translation here: the nature of the place. We seek out that nature, describe it and make it accessible to those who want to do something with the place.
This naturally concerns the landscape, whether rural or urban, the architecture, but also the cultural background of the environment. The history, the social structure, the emotional value of the place.
